As we continue to consider what it means to be a Christlike disciple, we'll begin to conisder what John the Baptist meant when he said, "he must become greater and greater, I must become less and less" (John 3:30).

In a world that tries to convince us that we should be the center of our own universe, this can be a challenging thing for us to understand. If we fail to understand that Jesus' lordship requires our obedience, then we fall to the heresy that Dallas Willard says makes it possible "to be a 'vampire Christian.' One in effect says to Jesus, 'I'd like a little of your blood, please. But I don't care to be your student or have your character. In fact, won't you just excuse me whle I get on with my life, and I'll see you in heaven.'"
